Advent is widely known as a season for remembering Jesus’ birth. The word advent means “coming.” We first met God as Immanuel, God with us, as an infant. Yet in remembering Christ’s entrance into the world, we also prepare our hearts expectantly for his return. We anticipate the time when he will finally establish God’s everlasting kingdom. This Advent, we are exploring Luke’s account of the events leading up to Jesus’ birth. In looking at these scenes, we will see how God prepared people for Jesus’ first appearing, and what we can learn from them to prepare for his second appearing.
