The night before he was betrayed, Jesus gathered with his closest friends. He wanted to say his farewell. But this was no ordinary goodbye.

In the days ahead their world would unravel around them, as everything turned upside-down. Jesus didn’t want to leave them to fend for themselves—he wanted to prepare them for what was to come. And so he spoke to them of a concrete hope—he gave them a sure and steady anchor to tether them in the midst of the storm.

As we live between his first coming and his final return, Jesus speaks these words afresh to us. To all of us, Jesus said farewell, so that we might endure the unravelling of our world with his great comfort and certain hope.
